You might have it in your kitchen, to hold the best china and silver. Or you could have it in your bathroom, keeping medicines way out of reach of children. And you could have at least one in your bedroom, where everything from clothes to shoes, yearbooks to photos are stored.

Taken for granted and often abused, closets make up a great part of our every day lives. They are called by many other names; the word “closet” is, in fact, native to North America, and is associated with cabinets, cupboards, or pantries. The British call it a “wardrobe,” or even an “armoire.”

Way before C.S. Lewis introduced the world to a magical universe past the furs hanging in a closet, the Elizabethans closeted themselves and referred to any room as a “closet,” as long as someone could read in it and have privacy. In the modern age, even the bathroom is referred to as a “water closet,” or W.C.

Closets can be made in a variety of materials. The traditional wood allows a closet to be decorated with carvings and mirrors. The more modern closets are made of less insect-prone materials, and are more lightweight.

Whatever they are made of, and whichever name they are called, closets come in many types depending on their use.

• A broom closet is a closet narrower than wide, often stretching in space from the floor to the ceiling. It is made to store length objects such as mops, brooms, or hockey sticks

• A coat closet is a storage space in which to store jackets, hoods, and coats. Such a closet will often have no shelves, and only rails on which to hang clothes on. In a house, it is located near the front door, so that anyone entering the house can place their jackets in a safe place, then take it out again and wear it when they leave the house.

Some restaurants also have coat closets, and these are usually located in an isolated space farther from the entryway.

• A linen closet is typically built with shelves instead of rods on which to hang clothes on. It is located near bedrooms or bathrooms, and is used to keep washcloths, towels, blankets, sheets, toiletries, and curtains.

• Wall closets are shallow closets separated from a room with folding doors, curtains, or strings of beads. They have just enough space to store folded clothes or to hang them.

• A walk-in closet is a large closet large enough for a user to walk inside, and wide enough to keep a greater number of clothes, shoes, books, and other paraphernalia. Some walk-in closets have lights and mirrors, and will often have unique flooring.

• California closets are larger versions of walk-in closets. They will contain more shelves, shoe drawers, rails on which to hang clothes, racks in which to keep books, and even netting on which to hang earrings! The more luxurious California closets will even have safes, secret compartments, and drawers in which to store money or precious jewelry.

They are often ignored in favor of their contents, but closets do perform a good number of duties their users take for granted. They store shoes and clothing in an organized manner, and keep them clean. They keep out humidity, preserving precious books and photographs. If made skillfully, they can serve as accents to rooms, even as conversation pieces.

Closets, most of all, store memories, no matter what they are for.

We've been doing some substantial remodeling in our home over the past year and a couple of our main priorities were improving storage and gaining more efficient organization. The home we live in was originally designed for a couple and we have been trying to make it work for a busy family. It has been a challenge to say the least and our remodel, because of careful thought and planning, is improving things in amazing ways for us.

Closets are one of the areas we have looked at closely. A closet organizing system that works well in our home includes making use of existing space while allowing us easy access to all areas of the closet. Not an easy task because we have tall ceilings and normal-sized closet bi-fold doors. So I have been doing some research on closet organizing systems, trying to find what will work best in our scenario.

Here are some highlights of what I've found.

-- A budget really matters.

The options range from do-it-yourself (DIY) to custom solutions. Even within those options, there are sub-options. DIY, for example, can consist of creatively arranging cardboard boxes in your closet in order to better organize the space, to the other end of the scale which involves purchasing highly customized closet organizing systems but installing them yourself.

All of these choices come with their individual costs, ranging from very little to a considerable chunk of change. Decide on a budget up front and you'll narrow your choices immediately. Then you'll be able to focus on what the options are within your price range, not on wishful thinking.

-- Decide on usage.

A master bedroom closet has significantly different needs than a child's closet. For instance, a child's closet needs to exhibit flexibility over the years as the child grows. Your master bedroom closet probably won't need that kind of flexibility. In fact, you probably know exactly what your closet organizing needs are in your bedroom...you just may not know that you know! I say this because you're already using this space in a certain way, a way that makes sense to you on some level. I know this was true for us in our home.

To discover how you use your closet space and what you would like to change, try this simple exercise.

1. Take a look at your bedroom at night, after getting ready for bed. What's not put away? If you leave clothes on chairs (or the floor), why? Is your closet too full? Are your hangars difficult to use or the wrong type? Is there a pile on the closet floor? Do you have a separate storage area for shoes? Do you worry that if you put away your belt (tie tack, hankie, sweater, etc.) that you won't be able to find it quickly first thing in the morning?

2. Keeping in mind the late-night exercise in #1, go online or to a store and look at different closet organizing systems. Mentally imagine putting your stuff away in each of them. Some will have immediate appeal, some will not. Note the things you like and the things you realize you will never use. Keep this list and work from it as you refine your desires and eventually, shop.

My final closet research highlight is maybe the most important one.

-- Do you want to do this project yourself or would you rather let the pros go at it?

This is a true cost issue, so your answer will somewhat depend upon what you decided for a budget. We are comfortable DIY-er's but I have to be honest and say that a good percentage of the projects we have tackled in our home many folks would not want to do themselves.

A closet organizing system is actually a good project to begin learning some basic do-it-yourself skills, but only if you want to learn them! If you really can't stand the thought of this type of sweat equity, you will have to adjust your budget to reflect that.

The bottom line is this. I entitled this article "A Closet Organizing System - Do You Really Need One" because I think you should start with that basic question if you are searching for more efficient use of space in your home. If you don't want to invest ANY money or sweat equity into improving your closets' organizational value, then you'll probably be happiest simply rearranging your closets as they currently are.

You can probably get rid of any items that you realize you no longer use and simply rearrange what remains to suit you better. At the very least you can try that idea and live with it a while to see if that solution works for you. In addition, you've successfully answered the question in this article's title!

But I suspect, since you're actually reading articles on closet organizing, you want more than a simple rearrange. So take an hour and a piece of paper (this is the method we used in our home) and take stock of what you already have and what you wish you had in terms of closet organization. Then research your options and find the right combination of closet organizing systems that will fix the majority of your frustrations at the price and effort that comes closest to what you want.

One more thing. Do remember to think long-term. You might be surprised at how much you actually *enjoy* a highly organized closet! It's one of those things you didn't know you needed until you have it. Then you wonder how you ever lived without it!

If you have a closet that is completely unusable because of the amount of junk in it, it is time to consider some closet solutions to give you your closet back. A complete closet reorganization is a monumental task if it is not something that you want to do. The first thing you need to do is to pull everything out of the closet. Some people have a large shoe collection that could fill an entire closet. Standardized shelving can be utilized for the shoe collector. With all your shoes organized, your closet solutions will be that much more streamlined. If you do not have space for all the shoes consider donating some of the more practical shoes to a third world country, they could really use them.

If you have many small items, try to store them out of site. Small items can give the appearance of a cluttered closet. This is when a storage bin or box is a good closet solution. A good closet re-organization is more than just re-arranging your belongings. Creating a closet space that is both functional and pleasing to the eye is the aim of total closet re-organization.

Many closet solutions meet your needs and wants. Search the internet for the latest styles and trends in closet design. You will find many tips and tricks along the way. The thought of closet organizing makes most people groan. But it doesn't need to be this way! Starting with a messy closet, you can get that closet organized and keep it organized in just 5 minutes a day.

Set a timer and let's get started!

-- Day 1.

Your first 5 minutes will be devoted to staring at the contents of your closet. With pen and paper in hand, jot down what items you haven't used in years (be honest). You will be throwing or giving these items away. If you can't bear to toss an item, give some thought as to where the item could go for a new home and a new life.

When your timer goes off, stop. Put the pen and paper on the closet floor and close the door. You'll be back tomorrow.

-- Tomorrow is here!

Continue your closet organizing adventure. Go to your closet and pick up your pen and paper. Keep on creating your list of what in your closet you can get rid of and what items need to find a new home. Use as many 5 minute sessions as necessary on this step. Feel like you're not getting anywhere? Nonsense! This step makes all the difference down the road when you are maintaining your organized closet.

Simply stated, it will be A LOT easier to keep your closet organized when it only contains what you truly use and is not being used as your personal archive. (In fact, it will probably help you if you can designate one closet or space in your home as a storage container for all those items you need seasonally or for keepsakes. Things you only access occasionally.)

In addition, doing this one step over several days will give you a chance to really think about those items you have collected over the years. You'll find you're ready to give or throw away things on Day 5 that you couldn't bear to part with on Day 1.

-- The next step to your closet organizing.

Once you have completed the list of unnecessary items in your closet, grab a couple of boxes and your timer. Set your 5 minutes and, using your list, toss the trash in the trash box and the give-away items in the give-away box. If this takes you more than 5 minutes, stop and continue tomorrow. This step will go fairly quickly, however, if you've done a thorough job with your list from Day 1.

-- Moving right along.

Now that all the excess stuff is gone from your closet, you can get down to organizing what is left. Use your 5 minutes to genuinely study what's remaining in your closet.

* Which items do you use everyday?

* Which items can be stored together?

* Which items can be stored on shelves?

* Which items can be stored in drawers?

* Which items should be put in bins?

* Which items simply don't belong in this closet?

Take notes during this step and use as many 5 minutes as you need. Again, doing this over several days gives you time to consider how you use each item in your closet each day and what type of organizational system will make the most sense for you. You're aiming for usability here and it may take a bit of trial and error. That's fine because the end result will be a closet you can easily keep organized without even thinking about it.

-- Time to organize your closet.

Using your notes from the previous step, get the supplies you need to organize your closet. Again, take your time with this step, noting what is working and what is not along the way. Tweak as necessary.

* Need more hangars, bins, baskets? Put them on your shopping list for next time you go to the discount store.

* For starters, use whatever organizing supplies you already have including old boxes. It can help to live with your ideas for a week or two to enable you to understand exactly the type of organizing supplies that will serve you the best, so feel free to use temporary containers while you're at this stage of your closet organizing project.

* OR...if you're unsure about sizes and shapes of organizing products, buy just a few samples, leave the tags on and try them out. Then return what you don't need and purchase what you do.

This step can either be completed as part of your normal shopping (requiring no extra trip to the store and keeping within the 5 minute concept) or simply dive in and do one big shopping trip. Your choice.

-- Live with it.

There's no substitute for living with your organizing to see what you've accomplished and what you need to change. Use your 5-minutes-a-day to ask yourself what you like and don't like about your newly organized closet. Take notes and make changes.

-- Last step.

This is the maintenance step and it's easier than you think. For your closet organizing enterprise to give you the results you want, you'll need to take 5 minutes each day and put things away in your closet where they belong.

But beware. Skip this step for just 7 days and you'll need to put in 35 minutes to get back on track. Maybe you don't have 35 minutes to organize your closet, so you don't do it. It won't be long before your closet will be in chaos again and you're using EXTRA time every day just to locate items that should be at your fingertips.

That's right, you're going to use the time anyway. Being disorganized is a huge time waster. So stick to your 5 minutes a day, no matter what. It won't be long until your new habit becomes second nature and you can't imagine NOT doing a quick tidy-up each day.

All it takes is 5 minutes.

Closets become more functional if we make them ourselves-designed according to our specification and how we plan to use them. After all, who knows our own requirements, needs and desires when it comes to our own rooms and how our closets should be?

So the practical and simple answer is to build your own closet and ensure that yours will be exactly what you need for both yourself and your family.

And here is how we make a closet with simple steps using closet systems.

Closet systems are closet sets in wood or metal ready to be affixed with pre-measured and pre-fabricated parts. With them it's doubly easy to make a closet. In fact, this is so simple you won't believe how soon and easy you will have your perfect closet ready for use.

So follow these 5 easy steps for that dream closet:

1. Plan and design the closet. Decide where we plan to have it, how big, how many levels and compartments, and what features it would have. In short, when we make a closet we should decide how to use it and where. If it's for keeping kitchen utensils then place it in the kitchen. If for car tools have it in the garage. If we plan to have it store numerous things, build a large one.

2. Measure the available space. Don't design a big closet and then find a place where it fits later. When we have chosen its proper place, measure the place and confine the design of the closet to it. We can make a closet a bit more functional to make up for its small size.

3. Locate the wall studs-if we're dealing with wooden walls. If we attach our closet system to them-especially the vertical studs-we make a closet stronger than the ordinary. Studs are often spaced 16 inches apart on center spacing. When we locate one its easy to locate the rest. Remember to get a closet system with measurements that fit our stud spacing.

4. Metal closet systems can also be an option. Just remember that the measurements should fit the stud spacing on our walls. We may combine wood and metal structures to make a closet and attach with screws and rivets. If we're thinking of attaching closet systems on concrete walls we may use wooden or plastic dowels or pins imbedded on walls through drills. Then we may work the screws into these dowels to attack closets on.

5. It's better to have our closet painted to prevent wood or metal from staining our clothes in the long run. Painted surfaces are easier to clean. When we make a closet of wood, remember to sand the surfaces first before painting for a better result. With metal closets, rust proof before painting. We may also opt to have fancy paint finishes, like a classy wainscoting wood finish.

When planning to make a closet attached to a wall, opt for closet systems and note the above tips.

Is your closet in shambles? Are your clothes taking over your closet? Are you at a loss about what to do to tidy things up and get things back on track? If so, then I've got some tips that I think will solve the problem. So sit back, relax and go through these steps with me to find the solution to your small closet trials and tribulations...

Step 1: Clean up and Clear out

If your closet is in shambles, the first thing you need to do is a major clean-up. Closets don't clean themselves, they need to be cleaned every once and awhile. So, a good place to start is to simply take everything out of the closet.

Once you've done that, sort thrugh your items items and get rid of things that you may no longer need and donate them to charity. Once you've initially cleaned up and cleared everything out, to keep things under control it is recommended that you do an inventory check and occasional clean-up every 3 to 6 months.

Or if that doesn't work for you, consider using the "Replacement Strategy" instead.

It's a simple method of keeping your closet up to par every time you go shopping. This will help you keep a steady flow going rather than having to wonder if you're once again cramming too much in your small space as time progresses.

This is also very helpful if you shop a lot. It will keep quantity-in and quantity-out consistent.

To make this strategy work, let's use an example of how it's done...

Let's say one day you're ready to go shopping. Before you go shopping, it's vital to go through your closet and find a certain number of clothing that you're no longer happy with.

Once you've gone through your closet, let's say found 2 pair of pants and 3 shirts that you're ready to get rid of. The next step is to then go shopping for the equal amount of clothing that you plan to toss out or donate. In this case, it's 2 pair of pants and 3 shirts.

During your time out shopping, your job is simple. All you have to do is find 2 new pair of pants and 3 shirts that you'd like to REPLACE your old clothing with. And that's it. Simple, huh?

But let's not forget. You have one last thing to do once you're done shopping...

And that's to simply drop off the old clothing at the thrift store and then you're finished for the day.

So if it's not clear by now, you're basically replacing the old with the new. This is a simple method that will help you keep things tidy as well as help you maintain a certain shopping budget whenever you're ready to add something new to your wardrobe.

Step 2: Create Your Own Closet System

If you have a small closet that is just overflowing with clothes, even after you've done a major clean-up, you might want to consider several options on doubling your space. You can get a complete closet system, but often this requires that you remove your current closet system and put a new one in. And if you're renting a place, you know this is definitely off-limits.

So what do you do when you need a closet system but can't put one in?

Well, you turn to closet organizers to get the job done.

They can be just as effective as a complete closet system and all you have to do is hang them up on the closet rod that's already in your closet. All it takes is a few moments and voila... you have your own makeshift closet system.

To do this, you will simply need...

  • Closet doublers
  • Hanging shelves and drawers
  • Hanging shoe organizers

StacksandStacks.com is a great place to find the organizers that you'll need to achieve this look.

The great thing about closet doublers is that they do exactly what they say. They double your space by utilizing the unused space blow your clothes, so you essentially have two hanging spots instead of one.

Hanging shelves and drawers offer you a big advantage because they allow you to eliminate your need for a dresser or chest of drawers. And this can be extremely helpful if you have a small bedroom but can't afford the room for a dresser.

With the hanging shelves and drawers, you can store all of your undergarments in them, such as socks, underwear, bras and so forth. And if they're big enough, you can even store your purses in them too. If not, they make organizers that you can hang up for those as well.

Hanging shoe organizers are also self-explanatory. If you don't want your shoes lying around all over the place, get a hanging shoe organizer that will get the job done.

Once you have all of these organizers, consider placing the hanging shelf and shoe organizer in the center of your closet and a closet doubler on each end. However, before you jump the gun, be certain your closet can accommodate a hanging shelf, shoe organizer and 2 doublers. If not, you might need to eliminate one of the doublers or organizers.

Step 3: Don't Just Guess... Label It!

Once you've gotten rid of everything you don't want in your closet and you've gotten your organizers in place, you might want to consider one last (optional) step to take care of business...

And that's closet dividers.

TheContainerStore.com has great blank closet dividers that you can use to achieve this great look and feel.

You can use them to label your clothes...

  • By season
  • By type
  • Or simply by style

...and they'll help you know exactly where each section begins and ends.

For instance, if you organize all of your long-sleeve shirts together, you could put a label up that says "Long-sleeve Shirts." Or if you prefer, you could place all of your formal clothing together and create a label that says "Formal Clothing."

But what if you enjoy organizing your clothing by season? Well, obviously you could do that too. Simply create four labels in accordance with the four seasons of the year: spring, summer, winter and fall.

This will eliminate guesswork and each day you'll be able to quickly go to what you need section by section.

Once you've done all 3 of those steps, you'll have a small organized closet you can take pride in. And from then on out keeping it tidy will be a breeze. Simply tidy up every 3 to 6 months or use the "Replacement Strategy" to keep quantity-in and quantity-out flow on par.

Who knew it could be so simple, right?

Bedroom closets are notoriously difficult to keep under control. This is because the bedroom closet is in constant use, with items coming in and out frequently. Without a good system in place, bedroom closet organization can quickly fall by the wayside.

It becomes even more difficult when you consider that most of us have a bunch of items that we never wear clogging up our closets. Whether these items were received as gifts, bought on sale somewhere, or just don't fit anymore, this stuff takes up valuable closet space that could be better used for items that we actually use.

The result of this log-jam of stuff is one great big cluttered mess! Staying on top of bedroom closet organization requires a functional closet organizer system that will provide you with the tools you need to make it easy to organize and store your clothes.

Here's how to get started on your way to a clutter-free, well-organized closet.

Clean Up Your Room

If your bedroom is a mess, you'll have to bit the bullet and overhaul the entire room. It's difficult to keep a closet organized if you can't walk through the rest of your room! At the very least, put like items together and get clutter out of the way. This way you won't be tempted to just toss the mess in the closet. It doesn't hurt to clear out cobwebs, dust, and vacuum while you're at it.

Get Rid of What Doesn't Fit

Now that you're ready to tackle the closet, start by getting rid of clothing that doesn't fit. Countless people spend wasted space and mental energy hanging on to too-small clothes for that 'someday' when they will finally fit. Do yourself a favor - get rid of these items! If you need the money, you can even earn a little extra cash by selling items on eBay, at a consignment shop, or on Craigslist. In order to avoid the temptation to hang on to this stuff, it's sometimes better to just give things away - quickly. Give stuff to friends, donate to your local thrift shop, or post items for free on Craigslist. As they say, one man's trash is another man's treasure.

Put Away Out-of-Season Clothes

There's no use in having a bunch of heavy winter clothes taking up space in your closet in the middle of summer (or vice versa). Store your out-of-season items under the bed, in plastic storage bins, or in garment bags. Make sure to protect wool items from pests by filling old trouser socks and nylons with cedar chips. A great way to save money on cedar chips is to buy inexpensive cedar pet bedding at your local pet supply store. Be sure to replace the cedar chips every month or so.

Complete the Purge

Finally, get rid of anything you haven't worn in the past year. If you haven't worn it in more than one season, chances are you never will. Keep the clutter from piling up again by choosing fewer, better quality items - resist the temptation to buy something just because it's on sale. If it hangs in your closet without ever being worn, it means wasted money and wasted space. Also, whenever you buy (or acquire) something new, get rid of something else.

Get rid of anything that doesn't make you look and feel your best. Tight, uncomfortable, frumpy, or ill-fitting clothing must go. Also, gather up items that need minor mending, like a hem or a missing button, and plan to get these repairs made within a week.

Items You Can't Bear to Part With?

After you've purged as much as possible, try this tip for any items that you just can't stand to get rid of. Put the items back in your closet on a hanger facing the opposite direction from the rest of your clothes. As you wear these items, turn the hangers around to match the rest of your clothes when you put them back in your closet. After six months to a year, you'll be able to tell by the backwards-facing hangers what hasn't been worn. Get rid of anything that's been sitting there all year without being worn.

Customize Your Bedroom Closet

Now it's time to take stock of your closet storage space. The typical (and least efficient) design of a bedroom closet is one clothes rod with a shelf above it. To customize your closet space, take inventory of your wardrobe. Do you have lots of shirts? Then double closet rods can maximize efficient us of closet space. Do you have more shoes than anything else? Then a shoe organizer might help you beat the clutter. You can also use inexpensive racks and shelving systems to keep folded clothes neatly organized.

For really efficient use of your closet space, I recommend the elfa® bedroom closet organization systems available from the Container Store. If you contact the Container Store and provide your closet measurements and answer a few questions about your storage needs, they'll design a custom closet organizer tailored just for you. I faced the challenge of squeezing clothing and toys for three children in a single closet. I contacted the Container Store for a customized bedroom closet organizer and I couldn't be happier with the result.

Setting Up Your Organizational System

Now that you've whittled down your wardrobe to only the items you love and actually use, and now that you've customized your closet organizer to match your needs, you're ready to put your organization system into place.

Shoe Storage

For shoe storage, clear plastic shoe boxes that can be labeled are a good investment. Shoes can be categorized by season and purpose. To simplify shoe storage, store in-season and frequently worn pairs within easy reach; the rest can be put away for the season, or stacked on the infrequently used top shelf of the closet.

Hang similar items together and categorize them by color. This will simplify your morning routine. For example, hang shirts together (don't intersperse them with skirts and trousers), and organize them by color.

Buy tie hangers for ties, belts, scarves, and similar items. As with your general wardrobe, purge these from time to time, and get rid of items that are worn out, stained, or that you just don't use.

Conserve space for hanging clothes by using the same type of hangers for everything - uniformity and systematization saves space. Hang shirts and jackets facing the same way so that they 'nest' against each other. Use clear plastic skirt hangers for slacks and trousers.

If you have an unused bedroom in your home, you can turn it into a walk in closet by installing shelving and closet rods around the perimeter of the room. You can also use rolling carts and hanging rods if you want to avoid installing hardware. To maximize the utility of your new dressing room, include a comfortable sitting chair for putting on your shoes and a full-length mirror to give yourself a quick appraisal before heading out the door.

You can also save money and limit clutter by using what's available around the house to help organize your closet inexpensively. Unused bookshelves, plastic bins, and carts are all good options for stacking, folding, and storing clothes. The only limit is your creativity and imagination.

These bedroom closet organization tips have worked wonders for making my life saner, more organized, and easier to manage. If you take the time to overhaul your closet, they're sure to do the same for you!

Some boys refuse to grow up with age. They still like playing outdoors with their favorite toys. No matter where they travel to, they always like to carry their toys with them. Before you start getting any wrong ideas, let me assure you that I’m talking about grown-up ‘boys’ here, and the ‘toys’ refer to something more than little playthings from a kid’s closet.

If you fancy pumping up your adrenaline with snowmobiling, dirt biking, riding your ATV, jet-skiing or mountain biking, and also enjoy going places with your kith and kin, toy haulers are what you need.

Toy haulers, also known as 'toy trailers' or 'toy boxes’, comprise one of the fastest-growing segments of the RV industry. They are particularly popular with individuals who enjoy outdoor sports and are always looking for an opportunity to follow their passion at exotic locales away from home. Toy haulers merge seamlessly with the active outdoor lives of such people. Toy trailers look just like a regular fifth wheel or travel trailer, and their technical specs are not very different either. Typically, toy haulers can be anywhere between 20 to 40 feet long and come equipped with either a frame hitch or a 5th-wheel hitch.

The cargo space (the space where you park your toys) usually fills the back part of the trailer although there are quite a few excellent side-cargo models. On the former kind, the rear wall features a door which, like in a moving van, can roll up and reveal a loading ramp that can be pulled out. It can also be a simple swing-down door/ramp combination where the door itself acts as the loading ramp. The anterior part of the trailer houses the living area, including bedroom, kitchen and bathroom. Some models also have slide-outs that add extra living space.

It’s easy to see from the above why toy haulers are such a marvelous piece of engineering for most. If you’ve always wanted to find the perfect balance between the comforts of your home and your active outdoor lifestyle, toy haulers are what you need.

Just like with conventional travel trailers or fifth wheels, you can choose from a wide variety of floor plans for your toy hauler. The main consideration for most is whether the cargo space has room enough to hold all the toys that you want to carry along. Another consideration is the angle of inclination of the ramp. After all, you need a ramp that lets you easily, and quickly, load and unload your toys. Other points to look out for include checking the surface of the ramp to make sure it's finished with non-skid material. In some cases, the cargo area can be converted to a screen porch. If this interests you, be sure to ask your dealer about new or used toy haulers with this option.

By the rule of thumb, the larger the cargo area is, the more compact the living area will be. One is advised to find the best balance between the two. Generally, these RVs can easily accommodate 6 – 10 people and contain, at least, one discrete bedroom along with sofabeds and a bunk in the cargo area. There are literally dozens of ways to configure a toy hauler's living area, and you can also choose the colors and fabrics that suit your taste.

Most new homes now come with walk in closets and the bigger the closet the bigger the "Wow" factor. Women seem to love a big walk in closet while men don't seem to care that much. If your home doesn't have a walk in closet, it might be time to start thinking of getting one.

All the expensive houses now come with master bedroom walk-in closet designs that are creative and big. Some of these closets are as big as a room used to be. If you choose to put a walk in closet in your old home, it may be a bit expensive because you will probably have to tear down a wall or too. There will be a monitary benefit when you sell your house, however, as your new walk-in closet should increase the value of your home.

When you have a master walk-in closet that two people use, it is important to try to have the best his and her closet organization as possible. As long as you can come up with his and her closet ideas that will satisfy both parties, there will be no hard feelings or animosity.

If you have a big walk-in closet then you definitely need good lighting. And if you have one of those really big walk in closets with maybe an island or a chest of drawers or something similar, you need to find some neat closet lighting ideas.

Track lighting is always cool looking and you might be able to put it in your large wak in closet. You can find some good deals on track lighting at Ikea and other places and if you set it up properly, your closet will be stunning.

Florescent lights are most often used in closets because they are cool (not hot). Electrical codes have distance requirements for all light sources (except LEDs that also run very cool). Closets usually have a lot of things in them with low ventilation that could easily catch on fire from an incandescent or halogen bulb. Luckily, we are talking about a large walk in closet so you will be able to use something other than florescent lights or the usual ugly light that all closets seem to come with. Just make sure you don't have any of your clothes near the lighting.

Walk-in closets are also great because they give you so many more closet storage options. If you have a problem with your junk piling up in your room, you can have it pile up in your closet instead which is better for appearances sake.

Depending on the size of your walk in closet, you can have many things in there in addition to all your clothes and shoes. Some walk in closet ideas have full length mirrors in them and even a small bench or island to make them feel like dressing rooms.

There never appears to be sufficient storage space at my place. To make room for all my things, I would go on a cleaning and organizing spree. But my efforts were soon rendered futile with the mess that ensued as a result of the activities of my family members. I wonder why one would spend so much time and effort in organizing rooms and storage spaces when it took no time for all of it to become disorganized again.

When there are messy people in the house and kicking them out is an unnecessary solution because it brings conflict what else is there? If you can't afford a bigger home or a cleaning service and it becomes a dilemma, what other options are available?

I've researched custom closets as a method for reclaiming space by making organization of the space much easier. There is a wide variety of products and services offered online for manufactured storage and organization systems especially designed to fit closets of any size or shape.

Your custom closet design can be professionally done or you can do it yourself. Also your installation can be a self-install or you can pay someone else to do it. You can even hire a contractor to do all the closets in the house and what's more they will add new closet space in areas that were previously underused, like under the stairs.

Time equals money and therefore longer time spent on a project, a higher cost will incur. A closet organizing system has a determined price based on size, number of compartments such as doors and drawers, material, and room preparation prior to installation. A professional contractor is not necessary to achieve the closet necessary.

People which are in need of a little extra space, household retailers may be good enough with pre-made custom closet organization. Home shopping centers such as Sears or Home Depot have a lot of low costing closet organization items. The majority of these systems need assembly, maybe a hour to two to put together. So while you look around for your custom closets and organizers for your personal needs, I will be leaving to the store to search for my new custom closet organization system.

Why go to all the trouble organizing rooms and storage areas if those areas don't stay organized for long? Your custom closet design can be professionally done or you can do it yourself. For folks who only need a bit of extra space, pre-made custom closet organization systems available at major household retailers might be sufficient. From Home Depot to Sears, you can find lots of reasonably priced closet organization products. As you do your research on custom closets and organizers, I am heading to my local retailer to pick out my new custom closet organization system.

For most people the ideal closet is the size of a room with ample space to hang clothing, lots of shelves to tuck and stash away things -- a place where you can walk around and assess all your personal belongings.

In reality, most people's closets fall well short of this ideal. And few of us stop to consider the full potential of the closets we do have -- tiny as they may be. To understand their true potential, take a good objective look inside the closets you already have -- and the empty spaces that could be turned into closets or cupboards.

Closets are not the sort of thing most of us like to face. By their very nature, they invite us to avoid them. As long as the living space looks good, what's inside the closets doesn't really matter. It is said that both home and self improvement often start with your closets. The more effective and organized your closets are, the more effective and organized you feel.

The main things to consider when organizing your closets are budget, space and lifestyle. Even the tiniest closet can be maximized, and not necessarily at a high price.

Also, the contents of a closet don't necessarily have to fit the contents of a room. A hall broom closet can be turned into a pantry; a kitchen nook can be turned into a place to hang a wardrobe.

And you don't have to just hang things in closets. You can add shelf units, baskets, bins, or whatever fits, to store things in. Consider an air plane, a boat or a mobile home, where space is at a premium. Storage spaces are found above, below and to all sides of furnishings.

Here are a few more ideas to consider:

Make your closets serve a variety of purposes. Try adding a shelving unit to a clothes closet where you can store pantry goods and other items.
Always try to incorporate a variety of shelving units in a closet. These give you space to store small items such as shoes, scarves, handbags and even books.
The ceiling space in closets is seldom used. Consider adding a shelve or a compartment to store bulkier items such as luggage or blankets.
Before re-organizing a closet, take everything out. Set aside anything you haven't worn or used in a year. Consider donating these items to charity. Those you no longer use but want to keep should be stored separately in the attic or some place out of the way. Clearing out a closet is the first step in creating more space.
Invest in a shoe rack that can be incorporated into your closet. Whether it sits on the floor or hangs from the door or is part of a shelve unit, a rack will not only keep your shoes together it will give the whole closet a more organized appearance.
Plan to store your out-of-season clothes out of the way in boxes or elsewhere. Use the closet only to keep those items you wear regularly during a season.
If you dislike the smell of mothballs but want to ensure your closets smell nice and don't attract moths, try hanging a sachet of dried rosemary flowers or a mixture of cinnamon and cloves. There are many fresh-smelling deodorizers and perfumed papers to choose from on the market as well.
If closet space is still tight and there are few open spaces in your home that can be turned into closets, try adding an armoire or wardrobe. This was the furniture piece used for storing clothes back when there weren't built-in closets. It's still a popular and practical item in many homes today.
Try turning an entire wall in a room into a storage area. There are many systems available that can be easily installed. You can close them up by adding doors, or keep them open and airy.
Kitchens are where you can be most creative in finding extra storage space. To get the best use of kitchen closet space, store as much as possible outside the closets. That means hanging anything that can hang from the ceilings and the walls. Custom-design closets and cupboards for the specific goods each will hold. This may include drawers for knives, shelves for different size cans, jars, etc.
Adding a shelving rack to the inside of a closet door can make even the shallowest closet seem deeper.
In a child's room, don't limit yourself to the space inside the closet. Use lots of bins, stacking baskets and shelving units throughout the room to store and toss things in. Source OREA

Ordering anything online can be a little scary, and ordering a custom product can be even more challenging. Here are a few suggestions to make ordering custom closets online a little easier and more secure.

1. Get familiar with your closet layout. Take exact measurements of each wall including the height of each wall. If the ceiling height varies in your closet, determine exactly where the change occurs. For wall widths, take measurements at both the floor level and at the highest level you can reach, and if you want to be extra careful take measurements mid-way. You'll want to use the smallest of these measurements when designing your closet, since this is the most restrictive dimension.

2. Make a simple sketch of your closet using a heavy lead pencil or pen and notate the measurements of each wall. You don't necessarily need to make your sketch to scale, but that would help you understand the potential of your closet.

3. Now that you have a sketch of your closet's layout start thinking about a logical floor plan. When designing your floor plan be realistic about the size of your space and any obstacles in your closet. Most people tend to over design a closet space in a effort to maximize storage area. Don't make a plan that blocks a door from swinging completely open or would create a cramped space. Better to move items to another storage area than create a tight and difficult closet. Remember that hanging clothes need at least 24 inches of depth and the minimum shelf depth for folded clothes is 12 inches.

4. When you have your closet floor plan finished begin assessing what type of articles you need to store in your closet and how much space you need for each type. Most people need more space for hanging clothes followed by folded clothes, shoes, purses and dirty laundry respectively. Determine if you want to have drawers in your closet and how many you need. Having drawers in your closet can free-up additional space in your bedroom.

The best way to do that is to find an online design program that can can design your closet to-scale. Several closet companies have online design programs geared to their individual products. Try to create a balanced and visually appealing design. You're investing your time and money, be sure you like the finished product.

Locate drawers at the center of your closet design, directly across from the door so they are the first thing you see when entering the closet. Drawers make a good visual focal point and they typically need the extra clearance provided by the central location.

Use the corners for hanging space not shelves. Corner shelves are sometimes too deep and clothes get lost, but corners work well for hanging clothes.

Don't underestimate how much space you require for hanging clothes, and don't plan too much area for long hanging. With today's fashions most people don't need more than 12 to 24 horizontal inches of long hanging space.

8. Now that you have the perfect closet design let's talk about the products available online.

The Material- Almost all of the online closet companies use particle board with a melamine laminate veneer finish. Particle board is a very versatile and inexpensive material primarily used for the manufacture of low-end furniture. Unfortunately, particle board can also be brittle and vulnerable to moisture. The only company currently offering an alternative material is Speedy Closet Organizer. These components are constructed using MDF (medium density fiberboard) over a real wood frame. This is the same type of system used for the doors in your home. The system is very strong and highly resistant to moisture. All online closet companies use a melamine veneer as the surface material. Keep in mind the quality of melamine varies from the paper thin stuff you see on the cheap furniture from big box retailers, to high impact resistant melamine that looks and feels like real wood.

Closet Systems- Most of the online closet companies offer very similar style closet systems. These systems are usually held together using plastic fasteners and are hung on the wall like a kitchen cabinet without doors and the shelves are typically adjustable. The disadvantage to adjustable shelves are the hundreds of unattractive holes that line the interior of the closet sides. High quality custom closets never have numerous visible holes on the surface. Speedy Closet Organizer offers a floor based closet system with no visible holes lining the interior of sides and the highest quality melamine veneer online.

Price - Be sure you are getting an acceptable quality for the price of your closet. Compare the price from at least two online companies for similar closets systems. Be sure that you are also comparing similar quality products. While price is important, make sure the final product will be acceptable to you. Conversely, if you don't plan on staying in your present residence for long, perhaps you don't need to be concerned about the durability of particle board or wall hung closet systems. However, if you are concerned about aesthetics and quality of your closet system, be sure to do your research on the materials and style of closet you want.

Installation - Installing a closet can be a difficult and time consuming task even for someone handy with tools. If you have large closets you could find yourself sorting literally hundred of parts and spending days assembling your system. However, there are several companies that offer pre-assembled closets at no additional cost. With pre-assembled closets you can install your system in a fraction of the time and usually without any power equipment. Regardless of which type of system you order, always secure your closet to the wall using the hardware provided with the kit. With these insider tips you should be better equipped to order your custom closet online.
